Maybe there is a place you’ve reached where you wonder why the devotionals don’t reach the achy places inside of your heart. I promise, it’s not because you’re a bad Christian or not spiritual enough.
The truth is, devotionals just aren’t a substitute for the deliverance needed from the heavy and hidden things that must be pruned and restored.
Yes, devotionals can speak to the places that still hurt, but I want to gently share that there is more available for you.
If you’ve walked through rejection, betrayal, abandonment as a small girl, those moments didn’t just cause sadness, they created belief systems in the heart which shape how you see yourself, other people, and even God.
Devotionals have their place because they give us Scripture, wisdom, and daily encouragement. But they mostly speak to the mind and will, yet, it’s the heart that needs tending, like a garden.
We can fill the mind all we want with information about Jesus but when the pain lives deeper – in the emotional memories and beliefs formed in childhood – devotionals can feel like they’re just skimming the surface.
Jesus cares about the words etched on your heart like “I won’t need anyone”, “I’ll never cry again” or “I’ll stay quiet to stay safe” you hold deeply in your heart.
Trauma, especially from childhood, doesn’t just fade with time. It often settles into the heart, and when left unhealed, it keeps bearing fruit in our lives. The lies we believed and the inner vows we made will continue to shape our lives until they’re brought to light and replaced with the love and truth of Jesus.
Healing isn’t shameful. It’s stewardship. And your heart is absolutely worth stewarding.
Jesus desires you to feel truly free.
I see you loving Jesus and praising Him for your salvation – but what’s also needed is to give your heart a voice… to explore why something feels spiritually ‘off’. The depth you’re craving isn’t because you’re broken – it’s because you are worthy of wholeness.
Jesus cares deeply about those places in your heart which has been yearning to be heard.
If you’re doing all of the right ‘Christian things’ like showing up to church and reading the Bible but still feel the inability to fully (and I mean, fully) rest in His presence, it may not be a discipline issue.
Sometimes it’s a heart issue.
God is inviting you to process your story because your freedom will not arrive through walking the road of pretend.
It’ll come through facing the root of what happened years ago.
It can feel seriously daunting to confess messy struggles to God. The spiritual exhaustion you feel, the way you misinterpret God’s voice, and the weight of feeling unheard or unseen.
Yet, God’s Word quite literally says:
“Trust in Him at all times, you people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us.” Psalm 62:8
God wants your raw confessions and uncontrollable weeping, because there is true freedom to be found in the Name of Jesus.
Devotionals can bring comfort, and they often do. But the Holy Spirit is your true Comforter. When it comes to deep, inner healing, nothing and no one goes further than He does.
Inner healing invites Jesus to touch the exact place where the wound entered, and speak Truth over when the lie or vow was first believed.
This is the spiritual and emotional freedom your heart has been aching for.
I’d love to invite you to carve some quiet time out and rest into a place where you won’t be disturbed, and ask the Holy Spirit to highlight…
“What memory am I avoiding that You want to meet me in today?”
Jesus will restore what was lost…
… even at age 7.
